our mission

The Southern Tier Concert Band’s Mission is to foster the cultural and musical heritage of adult wind bands by providing the highest quality rehearsals, public performances, educational outreach, and, for our members and our listeners alike, the access to outstanding experiences with band music in a wide spectrum of musical styles. Our mission is a synthesis of these visions and objectives:

· To promote the continued advancement of adult wind bands in our American society by presenting our audiences with only the most outstanding concert events.

· To offer inspiring, enjoyable, and memorable wind-band experiences to our members and audiences, thus making a positive contribution to the enrichment and musical education of the community, both locally and globally. 

· To recruit and retain a well-balanced roster of exceptional adult performers who are music teachers (both current and retired), professional musicians, and avocational musicians from other careers who have distinguished themselves by maintaining the highest possible musical performance standards. 

· To provide our members with an unrivaled local opportunity for advanced musical camaraderie, personal artistic growth, and creative expressiveness; consequently, STCB keeps a careful eye on diversity and inclusion for our performers, our audiences, and our selection of composers/compositions.

· To serve as an apex role model for current and future music students in our region; this may include offering instruction, mentorship, immersion-based performance opportunities, and scholarships/Honoria as funds allow.

· To seek continuous growth and improvement as an ensemble through periodic re-examination of our goals, policies, repertoire selection, and more; accordingly, this very mission statement is subject to occasional revision.
